A Girl’s Misunderstood Poetry

So when a friends teenage daughter was in danger of not being allowed to showcase her poems on Facebook anymore because they came across a little scary to some people, I saw an opportunity to help out another artist!  Whitney is an insightful 16 year old who has a book full of poems and the only way she shared them was in her bedroom on her webcam to her Facebook friends. With everybody getting a little jumpy of teenagers going out and shooting up a school or mall, some teen’s very innocent poems, songs or rants can be easily misconstrued as being a cry for help or an alert to something crazy about to happen. And, it sometimes does, but not always.

I knew this wasn’t the case with Whitney, but I could see how people who don’t know her could get a little freaked out and call the police, especially when she got emotional during one of her recitals. So, when she posted on Facebook that someone did call the authorities about her poetry and that she wasn’t allowed to recite her poems from her bedroom any longer, I contacted her and asked if she would be interested in doing a REAL video to showcase one of her poems. She jumped at the chance and this is the result.

This poem is about being in love with two people at the same time and having questions about the level of love or emotions you have. Are they the same? Can this happen? What do you do? Pretty heavy subjects for a 16 year old. I think we have an artist on our hands and I hope to get her art to the masses without her being carted away by the po-po!
